Traveler Information Roles and Responsibilities

Stakeholder Role and Responsibility
Bridge or Tunnel Operations Agency Provide information concerning the conditions of the roadway including bridge or tunnel activity, traffic congestion, incidents, or weather conditions to area public safety agencies.
Collects and formats data concerning road and travel conditions from the Bridge or Tunnel Agency's traffic operations center.
Provide information concerning the conditions of the roadway including bridge or tunnel activity, traffic congestion, incidents, or weather conditions to the traveling public either directly using a website or through the media.
Collect and disseminate information on border crossing status and schedules.
Coordinate traveler information with other information service providers including transportation deparments/ministries, border agencies, 511-type service providers, etc.
Canadian Border Services Agency Coordinate border crossing information with other information service providers including ministries of transportation, municipal governments, bridge/tunnel operating agencies, information service providers, etc.
Collects and formats data concerning border crossing operations.
Provide information concerning the border crossing to the travelling public either directly using a website or through the media.
Provincial Ministry of Transportation Responsible for developing and operating a 511-type system, allowing travellers to access information (traffic congestion, road weather conditions, and multi-modal) prior to a trip or en route including phone via a 511-like portal, kiosk, Personal Digital Assistant, personal computer, and a variety of in-vehicle devices.

Responsible for posting wide area alerts including border related incidents and 'amber' alert information on the 511 system.
Responsible for posting natural and man-made disaster information on the 511 system.
