Roadway Probe Beacons Equipment Package

Description:

Field elements to collect traffic and road conditions from passing vehicles; both anonymous toll/parking tag readings for link time calculations and smart probe data supported.

Functional Requirements:

1The field element shall use toll and parking tags on passing vehicles for traffic data link time calculations and send to the controlling center; tag identities will be removed to ensure anonymity.
2The field element shall include equipment that monitors traffic conditions (e.g., average speed) by communicating with passing vehicles equipped with a transponder or other short range communications device; also called smart probes.
3The field element shall include equipment that monitors road conditions by communicating with passing vehicles equipped with a transponder or other short range communications device; also called smart probes.
4The field element shall aggregate, format, and store collected vehicle smart probe data (traffic and road conditions data), calculate link travel times and processed road condition data, and send to future passing vehicles.
5The field element shall provide roadside beacon equipment operational status to the center.
6The field element shall provide roadside beacon equipment fault indication to the center for repair.
